It is important to know all stages of development and then take that knowledge into the hive to identify the life cycle stages first hand. It is also useful to be able to identify the age of the worker bees from housekeeper to voyager. This skill will help when it is time to split the hive&nbsp;<b><\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.17em;\">Russian Bee Life Cycle<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Day 1-<\/strong>An egg is laid into the bottom of a cell<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 3-<\/strong>Egg hatches<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 4-7-<\/strong>Egg becomes a larvae &#8211; worker feeds the larvae<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 8-<\/strong>The worker seals the cell (Varroa mites enter cell on day 8 just before sealing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 9-16, 21, or 24-<\/strong>The larvae will spin a cocoon becoming a pupa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 16-<\/strong>Queen bee emerges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 21-<\/strong>Worker bee emerges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 24-<\/strong>Drone bee emerges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Worker Bee Schedule<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 1-2&nbsp;<\/strong>Cleans cell, keeps hive warm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 3-5&nbsp;<\/strong>Feeds larvae<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 6-11&nbsp;<\/strong>Feeds other larvae<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 12-17&nbsp;<\/strong>Produces wax<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 18-21&nbsp;<\/strong>Guards the hive entrance<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 22-35&nbsp;<\/strong>Gathers nectar, pollen and propolis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Day 30&nbsp;<\/strong>hive will die without a queen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Life Expectancy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Queens:<\/strong> Queens will live about 3 years. It &nbsp;is highly recommended that a queen be replaced annually, in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drones:<\/strong>&nbsp;Drones will die once mated or at the end of the season when the workers drag the drones from the hive to conserve the hives winter resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workers:<\/strong>Spring workers will live approximately 42 days but Fall workers will live over 6 months. There is no difference between the Spring or Fall workers other than the amount of work expected from them.
