Bees use smell as well as the famous waggle dance to navigate a location.\u00a0 Smell, warmth, consistency and convenience combine to attract honeybees.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bBSqZJv4-f8\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Smell<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s easier to follow a smell than to take the time to ask for directions to the cleanest watering hole. Honeybees are attracted to my pool water. Chlorine smells.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warmth<\/strong><br \/>\nWarm water is preferred since bees need to keep their body heat above 57 degrees to fly. Bees in the compost pile indicate a warm and healthy composting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consistency &amp; Convenience<\/strong><br \/>\nBees<span data-reactid=\".kx.1:3:1:$comment10155443055600032_10155448380065032:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1.$comment-body.0.3\"><span data-reactid=\".kx.1:3:1:$comment10155443055600032_10155448380065032:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1.$comment-body.0.3.0\"><span data-reactid=\".kx.1:3:1:$comment10155443055600032_10155448380065032:0.0.$right.0.$left.0.0.1.$comment-body.0.3.0.$end:0:$0:0\"> prefer a site that consistently supplies water, nutrients, and mycelium over a puddle that will dry up quickly, even when the puddle is located just outside the hive entrance. Temporary water requires that bees re-navigate every time a puddle dries up. Navigation requires communication (more work). The compost pile provides consistency and convenience providing a safe place to land. A bucket of water is lethal. Many dead bees are found floating inside water buckets because they have fallen in and can\u2019t get out. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bees love compost.
