Bee Friendly Chicago Millennium Park
This photo was taken by my daughter Emily on our trip last Sunday to The Art Institute of Chicago. Imagine Emily spying a beehive as we cross the bridge into the heavily visited Millennium Park located in the heart of Chicago. The hive is not on a rooftop, it is on the ground with benches for tourists to enjoy. I am reminded of many municipalities and insurance companies that withhold the opportunity for bee friendly space. Did you know that annually there are 40 deaths related to bee stings with half of the fatalities knowing they are allergic and the other half that have never been stung? Consider 40 deaths with over 50% that are stung by a hornet or wasp rather than a honey bee. I’d say that the fear of bees is out of control. Thanks Chicago for setting a good example.
